A warehouse interview questions template works best when every applicant gets the same role-related prompts and an observation task tied to the work. This free Word pack gives hiring teams a repeatable way to assess safety judgment, attendance planning, teamwork, picking accuracy and process handover.

Assess the work, not a first impression

The pack starts with a role definition and asks the panel to choose criteria before interviewing. Five prompts request examples of hazard reporting, shift communication, handover, error correction and learning a new procedure. Assessors can capture evidence alongside a 0-to-4 anchored score rather than relying on vague labels such as “good fit”.

The practical exercise uses a mock order with a quantity or item mismatch and a second handoff task involving a defect or missing instruction. It calls for supervision, the same materials for each applicant and a stop rule for unsafe actions. Offer reasonable changes to the assessment format where needed and score the demonstrated job skills, not a request for support. Fair Work guidance covers protections for prospective employees against discriminatory adverse action.

Make a traceable hiring decision

The final page combines scores, a threshold chosen before assessment, evidence, gaps, feedback and panel signoff. If forklift work is part of the job, do not use a test drive as a shortcut. Verify the relevant HRWL, then arrange equipment familiarisation, traffic-plan instruction and host approval before assigning operational work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I adapt the questions to a specific site?

Yes. Define the essential tasks and criteria first, then apply the same revised set to applicants for that role.

Should every applicant use the same practical task?

Use comparable instructions, materials, timing and observation criteria; document an agreed assessment adjustment.

Does a good practical score prove site readiness?

No. The exercise is a hiring aid. Site induction, training and supervision are separate operational decisions.

Can the candidate demonstrate forklift driving?

Not in this pack. Forklift work requires a separately validated licence and appropriate site controls and approval.

Hire Against Clear Evidence

Download the pack, tailor the tasks to one vacancy and brief the panel before interviews begin. Keep candidate evidence secure and make the outcome reviewable. If you need support filling warehouse or production shifts, send Chandler Personnel the role requirements and site details.
