FMCG Finance Graduate Programs: HR and IT Streams as Well.

A plain guide to the finance, people and culture, and IT streams that Coles, Mondelez and DuluxGroup list on their own graduate pages, with Bega and Fonterra in a line each. It is for finance, HR and IT students asking whether food and consumer goods employers hire them into graduate programs.

If you are studying accounting, human resources or information technology, you may wonder whether FMCG finance graduate programs and their HR and IT equivalents exist, or whether food and consumer goods companies only hire engineers and sales graduates. According to their own pages, several do offer them. FMCG means fast-moving consumer goods: the packaged food, drink and household products people buy every week.

This guide covers business support functions only: finance, people and culture, and IT and digital. It leads with the Coles graduate streams page, then Mondelez and DuluxGroup, and gives Bega and Fonterra a line each. Sales, marketing, supply chain and engineering streams sit in separate guides. Programs, streams and dates change, so confirm each detail on the employer's own page before you apply.

Several employers list business functions beside plant roles

The pages do not give reasons, but they do show the pattern: business functions sit beside the plant and sales streams inside the same graduate program. Mondelez, for example, lists Sales, Finance, Marketing, People & Culture, Manufacturing & Logistics and Digital Services (Information Technology) as its graduate functions. That is useful if your degree is in commerce, psychology or computing rather than engineering.

Chandler Personnel is an independent, Melbourne-based blue collar specialist that supplies labour hire and permanent recruitment to employers in the food manufacturing sector. Chandler Personnel does not run, recruit for or place people into these graduate programs; apply on each employer's own page.

Finance streams: Coles, Mondelez, DuluxGroup, Bega and Fonterra Commercial

Coles is a supermarket retailer, so it is listed here as retail and FMCG-adjacent, not as a food maker. Coles Group's talent programs page says pre-registration is open and that applications open in 2027.

According to Coles' graduate streams page, the Finance stream runs for 3 years and names Commerce, Finance and Accounting as the preferred background. Its rotation is Financial Accounting & Control, covering areas such as Treasury and Banking, Tax and Business Assurance. The page adds that graduates will be supported in completing a CA/CPA qualification throughout the program, so check what that support covers.

For Mondelez, its graduate page lists Finance as a function of its Taste the Future Graduate Program and says a permanent role is guaranteed after completing it. The FAQ says the program rotates within the chosen function, so a Finance graduate stays in finance. It also asks for a CV, transcript and cover letter, full-time working rights in Australia or New Zealand when the program starts, and welcomes all disciplines. The FAQ sets a study-completion rule, so check it for the current intake; the page shows no application window.

DuluxGroup is a paint and consumer products group, not a food maker. According to DuluxGroup's graduate page, Finance, Information Technology (IT) and Business are among its graduate pathways. The page asks for full Australian or New Zealand working rights, a CV and an academic transcript, and gives no degree rule. It says applications for the 2027 program are open, so confirm that is still the case.

  • Bega. According to Bega's graduate page, Finance, Information Technology and People and Capability are among the disciplines (subject to change) in its RISE Graduate program, a 2-year rotational program with three 8-month rotations.
  • Fonterra Commercial. This is not a finance stream. Fonterra's Commercial page describes business partnering in Sales, Milk Supply and Operations plus central Financial Control roles, and looks for studies in Commerce, Business and related fields.

People and culture streams: Coles, Mondelez and Bega

On these pages the stream is called People & Culture or People and Capability rather than HR, so use those names when you look for an HR graduate program in FMCG. Coles' People & Culture stream runs for 2 years and names Human Resources Management, Commerce, Business, Psychology and Law as preferred backgrounds. Its rotation possibilities include P&C Central (Generalist), Learning, Talent Acquisition and Reward.

Mondelez lists People & Culture as a function with the same rotation-within-the-function wording as its Finance function, and Bega lists People and Capability in its RISE disciplines. DuluxGroup's pathway list has no people stream. From the employer's side, Chandler Personnel's guides cover the talent acquisition partner model and workforce planning for manufacturers.

IT and digital streams: Coles, Mondelez, Bega and DuluxGroup

Coles' Technology stream runs for 2 years, according to the streams page. Its preferred backgrounds include Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Cyber Security and Business Information Systems, and its rotation possibilities include Software Engineering, Data & Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Cloud Engineering.

If you want an IT graduate program in food manufacturing, three pages list it. Mondelez names Digital Services (Information Technology), Bega names Information Technology and DuluxGroup names Information Technology (IT) among its pathways. None of the three says which sites IT graduates are based at, and none gives an IT-specific degree rule.

What to check on the page before you apply

Streams are described in a line or two, so use this checklist on each employer's page before you spend time on an application.

  • Stream name. Match the exact name on the page, such as Finance, People & Culture, People and Capability or Digital Services, because the names differ by employer.
  • Rotation or not. Coles lists rotation possibilities, Mondelez rotates within the chosen function, and Bega has three 8-month rotations.
  • Location named or not. DuluxGroup says it recruits across Australia and New Zealand and names no states, and Mondelez's FAQ says it cannot cover travel or accommodation for assessment centres for applicants based outside Melbourne.
  • Degree and documents. Note whether the page names a preferred background and which documents it asks for.
  • Dates. Coles applications open in 2027, DuluxGroup's FAQ says initial applications open in July, and the Mondelez and Bega pages show no window.

Common Questions About FMCG Finance Graduate Programs

1. Do FMCG manufacturers have graduate programs for finance graduates?

Yes, according to their pages. Mondelez lists Finance as a graduate function, Bega lists Finance among its RISE disciplines, and DuluxGroup lists Finance as a pathway. Coles, a supermarket retailer, also lists a 3-year Finance stream. Streams and dates change, so confirm the current list on each page.

2. Is there an HR graduate program in food manufacturing?

Mondelez lists People & Culture and Bega lists People and Capability, and Coles lists People & Culture as a retailer. DuluxGroup's pathway list names no people stream. Mondelez's FAQ welcomes all disciplines and Bega's page gives no degree rule, so check each page for the current intake.

3. Do IT graduates work at a factory site?

The pages do not say. Mondelez, Bega and DuluxGroup list IT or Digital Services streams without naming sites for graduates, and Coles' Technology rotation possibilities include Merchandise IT and supply chain technology. Ask the employer where IT graduates are based before you apply.

4. Do I need an accounting qualification for a finance stream?

It depends on the page. Coles names Commerce, Finance and Accounting as the preferred background and says graduates will be supported in completing a CA/CPA qualification. Mondelez's FAQ welcomes all disciplines. Bega's and DuluxGroup's graduate pages give no degree rule, so confirm with the employer instead of assuming one.

5. How do business function graduates differ from commercial graduates?

On the pages covered here they are separate streams. Mondelez lists Finance, People & Culture and Digital Services as functions apart from Sales and Marketing, and Coles lists Commercial apart from Finance, People & Culture and Technology. Fonterra's Commercial stream mixes business partnering with central Financial Control roles, so read its page before treating it as a finance route. Customer-facing sales and marketing streams are covered in a separate guide.

Business Degrees Have a Place in Factories

Finance, people and IT graduates can find a stream at several food and consumer goods employers, and at Coles on the retail side, but the names, lengths and degree rules differ. Pick the employers whose stream names match your degree, then read each page for rotation, location and documents. Confirm the current intake on the employer's own page before you prepare an application.
